excerpt from the booklet.........

"The murti (statue or object of devotion) is a vehicle used for concentration of the mind-a tool for meditation-to reflect upon particular energies that are a part of God's creation.

"The murti acts as a 'medium' or agent to materialize these
energies and inner knowledge from the puja performed to it. The murti also
acts as a mirror to discover these energies lying dormant within the
heart-soul of the worshipper.

"The attitudes of devotion (bhakti), reverence and respect required to
perform murti puja afford the individual an opportunity to express his/her
feelings and emotions in a way that might be inhibited in a group of people.
Murti puja is best practiced in solitude.

"Through daily puja practices to a murti, the meditator experiences a
mirroring within and an inner amplification of the qualities represented by
and presented to the deity of the murti. These qualities being divine, they
exit everywhere, including the inner spiritual being of the meditator-lying
in different degrees of dormancy. The spiritual practice of murti puja is
an "awakening" process that uses gross form to simulate and reach subtler
planes-a launching pad for spiritual evolution. It might also be said that
the murti is a therapeutic aid for practicing the art of spiritual loving.
